Why are beauty products expensive?
Why are beauty products expensive?
Beauty products are expensive for various reasons. Some are understandable, such as the quality of the ingredients or their concentration, while others are shadier, such as the money the beauty product company spent on marketing.
The first good reason beauty products are expensive is the quality and the concentration of active ingredients. Cheaper beauty products may contain the same active ingredients as expensive ones but are not as concentrated. It is why more affordable products are often less efficient than more expensive ones.
However, some beauty products are expensive for other reasons unrelated to the quality or concentration of active ingredients. Brands that spend a lot on marketing make their consumers pay for it when they buy the product. Luxury brands charge insane amounts of money for their products because they want them to be exclusive, but a Chanel or Dior cream is not always better than a cheaper one from a less known brand. Moreover, luxury beauty products often contain perfume, which may cause allergic reactions in sensitive skin.
Expensive beauty products are not always a warranty of quality and efficiency. The ingredients are.
You can look at the ingredient list to get the best beauty products at the best price. The ingredients are classed by their percentage in the product. The component written first is the most prevalent. You can compare the ranking of active ingredients in different beauty products and buy the one with more active ingredients. Checking the ingredients list is also the best way to avoid dangerous ingredients, as some are suspected to be linked with cancer.
When buying beauty products, it is good to be aware of what kind of products you need to spend more on. Using good quality but cheap products for certain kinds is OK while spending more on other types is wiser.
Know when to splurge!
Why are beauty products expensive? Now that we know the reasons let’s learn more about the products for which it is better to spend more money.
If you are on a budget and cannot afford to buy that whole line of $40 per item beauty products, you will be interested in knowing that there is no need to spend more on certain beauty product types!
The best example is a face cleanser. The main goal of this product is to remove dirt and oil excess on your face. You rinse it so it does not stay on your face and end up in your bathroom sink drain—no need to splurge on this product. There are excellent, reasonably priced face cleansers out there.
Better save money for products that stay on your skin, such as serum. Serum should be your most expensive product as it is supposed to get deeper into your skin layers to deliver the active ingredients. It helps to get better skin and to treat issues such as acne or dryness in a more efficient way. A serum is used at night to let it time to get deeper into the skin.
Remember that not all expensive brands are good, and not all cheap ones are bad. Some ingredients and formulas may do wonders on one person’s skin but are inefficient one someone else. The best way to find the perfect product for you is to try one for at least a month, and if it is not working as you wish, switch to another. It may be more expensive to get more active ingredients.
