How to do skincare before bed? Are there products to avoid using at night? Calypso Cavallo tells you everything you need to know to master nighttime skincare!
How to do skincare before bed?
Many people do skincare before bed because they have more time than in the morning. However, doing skincare before bed is an excellent habit. It is crucial to wash your face before going to sleep to eliminate dirt, sweat, air pollutants, and excess oil. If you shower at night, you can wash your face simultaneously as the rest of your body. If you prefer to shower in the morning, never skip washing your face before rolling in bed.
Nighttime is also the perfect moment to use richer and more potent products to deliver their active ingredients deeper into your skin. We cannot use those products during the day because they often contain ingredients to enhance penetration. Those ingredients are not harmful, but they may let in skin pollutants or other unwanted molecules if you use them before going outside. Also, it is not advised to use such products before exposing your skin to sunlight.
The same goes with exfoliating the skin on your face or body. Always do it at night and never in the morning as it is dangerous to expose freshly exfoliated skin to direct sunlight.
At night, no need to use skincare products containing SPF as you will not go in the sun.
Skincare before bed: best routine
The best skincare routine before bed starts by taking a shower or a bath. Showering or bathing before bed helps to relax and to eliminate dirt and sweat from a long day. Use a mild facial cleanser to wash your face in the shower or bath. Never apply shower gel on your face as it is too harsh for the delicate skin of your face. Choose your facial cleanser according to your skin type and goals. However, there is no need to splurge on a facial cleanser as it will end up in your drain. Better save money to spend more on serum or night cream.
Once out of your shower or bath, apply a night cream or serum on your face. However, skincare is not just about face. Our whole body is covered by skin, and it is crucial to take care of it, so apply a moisturizing body lotion on your entire body (except the face and genital area) to moisturize the skin. Apply more on the dryer areas, such as your knees and elbows.
Using pleasantly scented body lotion is excellent for relaxing and feeling pampered. The best body lotion is the one you enjoy and is adapted to your skin type. Ingredients such as shea butter or aloe vera are excellent for moisturizing dry skins. Body oils are another option for those who want a highly moisturizing skincare product.
You can also use special lotions at night, such as rich hand lotion, to prevent your hand from being dry and callous. Using foot lotion at night is excellent, as you do not need to wear socks or shoes to sleep. Suppose you want to wake up like if you were just back from a beach vacation, you could use a tanning lotion overnight. Apply it with a mitt to avoid staining your hands. You have to shower in the morning, and you are ready to show off your fresh golden sunless tan!
