There are so many beauty products out there it is hard to know what to use or not in our daily routine. A suitable skincare routine is essential for healthy and glowing skin. What to include in it? When to change it?
Here is everything you need to know!
What's the perfect skincare routine?
The perfect skincare routine is different for everyone. The most important with a routine, either for skin or hair, is to stick with it. A skincare routine is efficient if carried out every day, so the best is to set a realistic one. Busy women should not establish a one-hour-long skincare routine if they do not have time to apply many products. A shorter routine with good quality skin care products is more effective than a long one performed sporadically.
The best advice about a skincare routine is to set it according to your spare time. Always late in the morning? Do the minimum before you rush to work and apply different products before bed!
There is nothing wrong with using more products in your routine if you enjoy it! The most important routine is doing it every day at the same time (morning or evening) as the products are not designed the same way to be used during the day or the night.
Calypso Cavallo's skincare routine
Here is an example of a skincare routine by Calypso Cavallo. Some products are essentials, while others are optional and can be ditched to make the routine faster and simpler.
Morning skincare routine
- Face cleanser (optional)
Cleaning your face in the morning or not depends on your skin type and the type of products you used the night before. Oily skins need two washes per day (morning and evening), while drier skins do better with just one wash a day. Dehydrated skins using rich, complex night cream causing residues may enjoy a morning cleanse to feel fresh, even with just water!
- Toner
Using a toner in the morning may be a good alternative for those who do not want to use a face cleanser twice a day. It is a great way to gently remove any dirt, dust, or excess oil before applying day cream.
- Day cream
This step is the essential part of a morning skincare routine. Apply a day cream with a formulation adapted to your skin on clean skin. Better go for a cream containing an SPF to protect the skin against aging due to UV light. If you wear makeup, your day cream is the base of your makeup and helps it stay in place and look good throughout the day.
Night skincare routine
- Makeup remover (if you wear makeup)
- Face cleanser
The next step is washing your face with water, and a face cleanser adapted to your skin type. You can do this step in the shower if you shower at night.
- Mask (once or twice a week)
Nighttime is the best time to apply a mask or a sheet mask. It is an excellent way to relax and take care of our skin.
- Night cream or serum
The last night skincare routine step is applying a night cream or serum, depending on your skin’s needs. A serum is excellent for dryer skins and often has an anti-aging purpose, while creams are lighter and more adapted to oilier skins.
