What part of our body is touching almost everything, washed ten times a day and rarely covered by our clothes? It is our hands! So hand care is a must. Furthermore, our hands are something most people notice, so keeping them healthy and smooth is a great way to achieve one’s perfect look.
So, what’s the best hand care? Calypso Cavallo gives you her best tips!

Basic hand care
Most people, when talking about skincare, refer to the face skin. However, if you want to look young and healthy, you should really take care of your hands as they may reveal how old you are, even if your face looks much younger.
Most things that apply to the face apply to the hands, too. Keeping them hydrated is the best way to avoid wrinkles and chaffing. Investing in an ultra-rich hand lotion is the first step in building your hand care routine. Just like the rest of the body, hands must be protected against sunlight. UV lights on your hands often lead to dark spots and reveal how old you are. Using sunscreen on your hands keeps them healthy and good-looking.
If the sun can be harmful to your hands, so can be cold, and many people suffer from cold bites on their hands in the winter. Never forget your gloves when cold outside to keep your hands warm and healthy.
To keep your hands smooth and beautiful, never forget to wear rubber gloves when using cleaning products and apply hand lotion every night before bed. Visit a salon or give yourself a manicure at home to achieve your best hand look!
Hand care to prevent skin conditions
Our hands are constantly exposed, and in contact with many chemicals such as dish soap or cleaning products, so they are more prone to skin conditions than other body parts. Many people suffer from various skin conditions on their hands, and it can quickly become a nightmare as we need our hands to do basically anything in our daily life. So, how to care for our hands to prevent skin conditions?
There are many little things we can do to protect our hands. First, wearing gloves when using harsh products such as bleach is necessary. People with sensitive and reactive skin should wear gloves even just to do the dishes. Many dish soaps contain harsh chemicals that dry the skin and make it more susceptible to developing conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Consistent hydration with richer creams is crucial. Using creams containing ceramides helps make skin stronger and keeps those painful conditions at bay.
It is harder to cure skin conditions on the hands because most of us are constantly washing our hands, which is excellent for avoiding germs and illness (COVID19, you name it…) but terrible for our skin. Health professionals know this issue very well, as many have burns on their hands after constantly using alcohol gel and harsh hospital soap. If you do not work at a hospital or medical facility, avoid using alcohol gel and get yourself a special soap or oil for sensitive skin to wash your hands. Keep unscented and undyed hand lotion with you at all times, and always apply after washing your hands to restore the skin’s moisture.
Be careful of temperature variation and humidity, as they may trigger skin conditions on your hands. Using a heater in the winter makes the air dry, so it does with your hands. Surprisingly the summer is not the best time either, as A/C-induced humidity or sweat can irritate the skin and bring back those conditions. The best to do is to use both heater and A/C in moderation to keep your skin healthy.
