At Calypso Cavallo, we embrace feminity and are willing to help women to feel and live better. Menstruation, or period, can be challenging for many women, so here are a few tips to feel better during your time of the month.

Plan ahead
This tip is probably the most important. Know yourself, know your body, and plan. Nothing is worse than being in the middle of the most important meeting of your career or the most crucial exam of your studies and getting your period without having a single pad or tampon.
Always keep a stock of menstrual products at home and in your purse. Having at least two pads or tampons in your handbag is crucial never to get your period unprepared. You can keep a little case with period essentials in your desk drawer at work or in your school locker.
Period essentials case
Girls’ moms are advised to give them a case with essentials ahead of their first period. It is a great idea that should not be for tweens only! Even grown-up women need period essentials, and a little planning and organization never hurt.
Here is what you should put in your period essentials case:
- Tampons and sanitary pads. Ideally, enough for a day, so at least three tampons or five pads. Panty liners can be convenient too.
- Painkillers. Always keep a few tablets of the painkillers you typically use for your period.
- Snacks, such as chocolate or cereal bars.
- Hand sanitizers and tissues.
- Extra underwear, in case of heavy and unexpected periods.
Track it!
A period tracking app is the easiest way to know when to expect your period every month. There are tons of them for both iPhone and Android, but the best is the one you will use consistently. Those apps send you notifications a few days before your expected period. They indicate what day you are the most fertile, and most have features to track additional symptoms such as spotting, cramping, or headache.
Those apps also let you track down your flow intensity. It helps to know your body better and when to pack more pads or tampons.
Plan ahead and plan around
The purpose of having a clear picture of when to expect your period is to plan your life accordingly when it is possible. It is always better not to book that spa day you have been dreaming about for months on your period’s heaviest day when you will be too worried about ruining your bathing suit to enjoy.
Avoiding planning leisure or social activities during your period if you have less energy is an excellent way to feel better and more relaxed about your time of the month.
Feel better during your period: Take care of yourself
Most women are more tired during their period, so it is time for:
Eating healthily
During our menstruation, we lose blood and nutrients. Eating healthily is essential to help the body create more blood and restore its nutrient stock.
Watch your protein and calorie intake. Avoid junk foods that may increase cramping, and go for whole and fresh foods. A good diet can help you feel better during your period.
Sleeping enough
If you feel more tired during your period, allocate enough time to sleep and rest. Avoid doing tiring or physically challenging activities during your time of the month.
Light exercises such as stretching or yoga can be helpful. Swimming is relaxing if you feel comfortable using tampons.
Drinking enough water
Blood is liquid, so you also need to get proper hydration during your period. It is even more true if you have a headache during this time of the month. Ensure to drink at least 1.5l daily. Water is the best choice, but tea or infused water is also acceptable. Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks.
Time for self-care
Many women tend to have more imperfections during their period, so it is a good time for self-care and skincare. Take a bath or watch a movie on your bed while doing a sheet mask to feel pampered and relaxed! It will help you feel better during your period.
