You may have noticed something odd: your skin, hair, and nails look better during a season than another. Why? How do seasons affect your skin? What can you do to keep your best skin all around the year?
Calypso Cavallo is here to give you her best tips!
How do seasons affect your skin?
Why is your skin always stunning during the summer and awful during the winter? Or the opposite. Do seasons affect your skin? Many girls (and boys) noticed it and tried to understand why.
There are many potential reasons. The first is that you are inconsistent with your skincare during some seasons. In the summer, you are too lazy to do skincare properly. In the winter, you are too busy and tired to wash your face before bed. It directly affects your skin and the way it looks. Consistency with your skincare routine is the first step to achieving perfect skin.
The second reason may be environmental factors. If you have acne-prone skin, your skin may clear up in the summer thanks to sunlight and salt from seawater, but experience intense breakout in fall when you stop going to the beach. On other skin, the sun and salt combo may be too harsh and cause dryness and tightness in the summer. A heater or AC may cause dryness or rash in some people, so they achieve their perfect skin during spring and fall when we need neither.
The third potential reason is behavioral factors. Human behavior change according to season. In summer, we tend to be more outside, travel, work less and be less stressed. If your skin drastically changes between seasons, try to take notes of your habits.
What do you eat when your skin looks good? If every time you go on that all-inclusive spring break vacation you experience heavy breakouts, try to monitor your diet. Eating lots of fatty and sweet foods cause breakouts, so it could be beneficial to avoid eating french fries at every meal and cut off the soda. If your skin looks radiant while on vacation, keep eating the same things when back home. Never forget to drink plenty of water, as it is beneficial for your skin (as well as your whole body).
What to do to get radiant skin all year long?
Now we know seasons affect your skin, learning how to keep that glow from your skin’s favorite season is a significant question for many.
Be consistent with your skin routine all year long. Never skip face washing, whether you are tired from school or work or lazy because you are on vacation. If going on a trip, make sure you have your skincare products with you and special care such as sunscreen. Sunscreen is not just for a summer beach vacation. It would be best to put sunscreen on your face before skiing as the snow acts like a mirror and increases the sunburn risk.
Adapt your skincare routine to balance environmental factors. If you have dry skin, you may need a richer cream or serum in the colder months, as cold weather tends to dry the skin. Do not overuse AC or heater if your skin is sensitive to it.
Try to have an outlet to cope with stress all year long, as stress harms your health and skin. Being active is not a vacation treat but a necessity to be healthy in both your mind and body. The same goes with a proper diet and hydration. Your skin looks good when you give it what it needs.
Even with a busy schedule, there are many ways to do skincare and self-care!
