Skincare is crucial for beautiful skin. Most people are aware using good products is a game-changer, but fewer know using the right product at the right time also matters.
So, when to do skincare? Here is everything to know!
When to do skincare? Rise and shine!
First things first, should we do skincare in the morning? The answer is yes, but the products to be used depending on skin type. Oily skin needs to be washed twice a day, morning and evening, while drier skin will do better with just one wash, ideally at night.
But skincare is not just washing your face! Even if your skin is too sensitive to be correctly cleaned (with water and face cleanser) twice a day, applying tonic lotion removes any dirt (think sweat, dust, or oil) on your skin and makes your face glow.
The next step is moisturizing. You can think of your day cream as a shield for your skin against all the aggressions, such as UV light, pollution, dryness… If you wear make-up, your day moisturizer will also be in charge of maintaining your skin hydration throughout the day.
Generally, applying a day cream containing an SPF is excellent to prevent aging from sun exposure, especially in sunnier regions. In places with a high air pollution rate, better use products formulated to protect the skin against air pollutants.
Doing skincare in the morning is an excellent way to start the day as it helps your skin look better and be ready to face exterior aggressions, such as pollution or sunlight.
When to do skincare? Get ready for your beauty sleep!
Doing skincare at night is essential for gorgeous skin. The skin became covered by dust, sweat, air pollutant, and sebum throughout the day. Washing your face before going to bed is crucial.
Choose your cleanser according to your skin type. Oily skins need salicylic acid, tea tree, or witch hazel to remove the excess oil and avoid breakouts efficiently. Drier skin needs moisturizing ingredients to remove dirt and pollutant without drying the skin even more.
Once your skin is clean, apply a night cream or serum. The purpose of night cream is very different from a day cream’s one. While a day cream has to protect the skin from exterior aggressions, night cream or serum is pure care. The night is the perfect time to hydrate dry skin profoundly and use stronger ingredients on oily skin, which are not compatible with sun exposure.
The night is also a perfect moment to use other products that would be embarrassing to be seen with, such as blackhead patch, local paste to dry out pimples, or skincare with a less pleasant smell.
When to do skincare? The punctual skin treatments
Aside from daily skincare routine, we should not use some products every day. It applies to scrubs, peelings, and masks. You should use those products twice a week to once a month according to your skin type.
Scrubbing helps to remove dead skin and avoid breakouts on oily and acne-prone skins; however, scrubbing with harsh products or too often may damage the skin and worsen the condition. The same goes for peeling.
Depending on its action, a mask may be used up to two or three times a week to deeply moisture or detox the skin. We should limit the use of masks containing more potent ingredients, as, even if they are helpful, they may damage the skin if used too often.
A weekly skincare session is also an excellent way to relax and evacuate all the stress accumulated. Taking time to take care of ourselves and recenter is a perfect way to feel good and rested.
