The morning is the early birds’ favorite time, while night owls could sleep all day. Either way, morning is crucial for skincare, and many of us have bad habits that ruin our skin.
Calypso Cavallo guides you through the ultimate morning routine for your skin!
Sleep enough!
Getting enough sleep is crucial for radiant skin. Sleep deprivation leads to red and swollen eyes and dark circles. Your beauty sleep should be at least 8 hours per night to give your skin cells enough time to regenerate. If you start your day at 7 AM, you should be asleep by 11 PM.
Sleeping enough changes your skin and your life. You feel more alert and happy. You think faster, and work is easier. You also become less prone to many sleep deprivation-induced conditions, such as obesity or high blood pressure.
Save your life; sleep enough.
The ultimate morning routine for your skin: Don’t skip the drink
Hydration is crucial for radiant skin and not just for your favorite moisturizer. Drinking enough water daily helps to keep your skin young and healthy.
Kickstart your day with a detox tea or a big glass of cool water. Adding some berries or mint leaves can help to drink water more easily. However, having lemon juice and water daily is not recommended as it may damage your teeth, especially with warm water.
Brush your teeth BEFORE your skincare routine
This skincare hack can change your life if you are prone to little stubborn pimples around your mouth. Toothpaste ingredients are great for a healthy mouth and fresh breath, but they irritate the skin and eventually cause breakouts. Brushing your teeth also involves splashing water around your mouth, washing away any skincare you may have applied beforehand.
Remember to always brush your teeth before doing your skincare routine.
Face washing or not?
Does the ultimate morning routine for your skin involves washing your face? It depends on many factors:
- Your skin
Everyone’s skin is different, and skincare is not “one-size-fits-all.” It is crucial to listen to the skin’s needs. Many people do great with two washes a day (morning and evening), while others’ skin feels tight if they do so. If you experience skin tightness while washing your face twice a day, you can use just water to freshen up your skin in the morning and save your cleanser for the night.
- The products you used the night before
Some skincare products are very potent and overall safe when used at night, but they may ruin your skin during the day because they make it extra sensitive to UV light. If you use a serum at night, you should wash your face in the morning to eliminate the leftover and avoid damaging your skin.
Do not skip the sunscreen
After washing your face in the morning, apply a day cream, and do not skip the sunscreen. UV light is responsible for early skin aging and cancer. Keep your skin safe by spreading a good layer of sunscreen on your face every morning or using an SPF-containing day cream.
The products to not use in the morning
As mentioned before, skincare products designed for nighttime, such as night cream or serum may contain ingredients increasing the skin’s photosensitivity (sensitivity to sunlight) and increase the risk of sunburn and damage.
Always read labels when buying new skincare products to be aware of any recommendations. Avoid using products containing Retinol (or its derivates) AHA (such as glycolic acid) or hydroquinone in the morning.
Overall, serums should be used at night as they are more likely to contain penetration-enhancing ingredients that make the skin more sensitive to UV light.
